Calvary Baptist Church

This Saturday, 21 ladies came together to fellowship and paint with former congregate Liz Coats. Each butterfly painted was as unique as the attendees, reminding us of God’s diverse world.

On May 28 after worship, Calvary members and friends gathered for one of our well known summer picnics, this one for Memorial weekend. Many thanks to all who worked so hard to make it a success and a time to nourish both body and spirit.

On Wednesday night, as a part of AAPI Heritage Month, Calvary members joined with representatives of the Delaware Sikh Coalition to enjoy a fellowship meal of authentic Indian food cooked and served by them. Around the tables, we learned more about each other through discussion prompts about the significance of food and family, and how the Sikh community is misunderstood.

Last Wednesday the Calvary Youth Group celebrated the ending of another school year with some lawn games, a photo scavenger hunt around Newark, and of course a pizza party! Over the 2022-2023 school year the youth group has had 32 midweek meetings with an average of 13 students coming out each week including several new students. Our youth are learning to SEEK God who is our light, DWELL in community with their tribe, and live lives that TELL their story to the world!

On Saturday, April 22, 11 members of Calvary participated in Habitat for Humanity’s build event Framing Futures Through Faith. We built the initial wooden frames of walls, windows, and doors, and the projects were blessed the following day.

On Saturday, April 22, the rain held off and Calvary hosted the 1in7B Foundation’s mobile laundry and shower facility for their final test and public launch. Newark mayor Stu Markham and New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer were on hand, as well as several media organizations. 1in7B plans to have the trailer at Calvary every other Saturday afternoon. On Feb 26, dance and drill team “Fashion Steppers” blessed us in worship, and afterwards we gathered for an amazing “soul food” luncheon with traditional African, African-American, and Caribbean dishes.
