Calvary has historically sponsored different refugee families as they adjust to life in the United States, starting with our first Cuban refugee family during the political turmoil of the 1960s.
Our current sponsored family came to the United States in 2018 having fled violence in the Central African Republic. We have helped them learn the culture, secure jobs, and get their permanent residency (green) card.
This family and our work was featured in an NPR story in March 2021: https://www.npr.org/2021/03/25/979723089/u-s-refugee-program-on-life-support-facing-big-challenges
